Can I start perennial sunflowers from seed?

I usually grow annual sunflowers but would like to try some of the perennial native sunflowers.
Any experienced advice is welcome.

Yes, you certainly can.

Depending on your weather conditions. you can start the seeds in containers in the spring according directions on the seed packets. Or you can direct sow when conditions allow for that.

All sunflowers grow well in average soil that drains well. They don’t like soggy soil.
Established sunflower plants are very drought-tolerant but like ample moisture too, as long as the soil is well-draining. Of course, they like to be in full sun.

Have you researched which of the natives you like? Coreopsis is always a favorite in Texas.
