Lets look at what we have blooming. I'll start off with a nice bushel basket size thanksgiving red.
Cactus: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter
Beautiful, is there a light source nearby? Window?
Most of my more mature Holiday cactus are now blooming...
JB (Jacquie Berger in PA) has been an amazing source of information on
Holiday cactus.
I have been the lucky recipient of several of her propagated CC's (for short...)
Or more correctly--THC.
Here are some of mine blooming right now. Most of these sit under the task lights
under the kitchen cabinets on my kitchen counter. They seem to do well here...
Many of these I have grown from small leaf-sections and waiter patiently for their blooms.
1--My all time champ--this Salmon Holiday Cactus (I will just call them CC's--OK?)
2--The old-time favorite--Fuchsia and white...
3--JB's "Peaches and Cream".
4--JB's "White Christmas along side of her "Orange Christmas"
5--"White Christmas" closer
Just so you will see the difference---
1--Here is an Easter Cactus--mine usually bloom later than Easter.
as you can see--the "leaves" do not have points on the edges,
They are gently scalloped.
2--Here is a close-up of the leaves...
3--Here is the bloom--mine is red.
4--Here is my baby true Christmas Cactus...No blooms yet--too young!
Hi orchidman,
Your plants are lovely.
I have 1 plant blooming now, and most if the others have buds. I have to declare, that these plants survive, despite my neglect, and I'm grateful to see their blooms at this time of year. They're all noids that I got to sale from HD or Lowes over the years. They live in my basement year-round by the window. I believe they're frightened into blooming, hoping I'll notice them and treat them better.
awersome plants
Cem--
Your CC's (Th.C's) are so pretty! AND--their foliage is so succulent and strong looking.
They must love where you keep them.
I have a pile of CC's too--and the two that have a more droopy foliage are the
common Fuchsia/white--and my Red one. All the others foliages are OK.
I have a true Christmas cactus coming along. Too young to bloom yet--
but the foliage is so petite--and I already know that the blooms will all hang
straight down. I can see it coming--droopy foliage--and droopy blooms....
I already posted it--but here is the true CC growing nicely. Gita
Thanks Gita.
I have a few plants that also have droopy foliage, but they're still making buds. I'm not quite sure how to correct that problem.
Your CC looks very healthy, what color are the blooms?
cat--You mean the little one just above? I don't remember--I got a few
small cuttings from "Birder" in late fall of 2012. I am happy how they have grown.
These have not bloomed yet...I am waiting...maybe next year?
G.
Wow all of you have a wonderful bounty of them. If they are something that would be ok outside I might look into some of them. Due to allergies I can't have inside plants. Just starting seeds up north about did me in till I found out about WS. Now that I'm in the south, it isn't a issue anymore.
Thanks to all for sharing your beautiful plants.
Jan
