color of muskogee blooms

springfield area, MO(Zone 5b)

I bought a Muskogee crepe myrtle and the tag says lavender but the picture looks pink. I have to admit, I bought it on clearance at Lowes for $1. I figured whatever it is would be fine for a buck and they are very hardy. But I might change my mind on where to plant it if the color is pink. Does anyone have an opinion on this?
It turned a bright orange/red color for fall and was really pretty, so I'm gonna win there either way!

The authoritative source - the U.S. National Arboretum, which created Muskogee and many other cultivars - says it has light lavender flowers, so I'd go with that:

FrillyLily, Missouri Botanical Garden says the flowers are "lavender pink". They also provides some guidance for growing them in your zone, where they might not be hardy: http://www.missouribotanicalgarden.org/PlantFinder/PlantFinderDetails.aspx?kempercode=e265

it says on the tag they are hardy to -10F so if that is true they should do ok. Cannot trust a tag though of course. I planted one on the south side of the house and one on the east. The east side is sheltered pretty well by the house and some larger trees across the neighbors line, so hopefully they will do ok. I think I will just rehome the third one, since I am afraid it will be too pinkish for my taste. Thanks for the links!

You're welcome! Good luck with your other ones; they're beautiful shrubs/small trees.
