Should I get a circular or jig saw?

I am an as needed hobbist (bookcase/kids chair, etc) and homeowner. I had a circular saw that was stolen but instead of replacing it with another circular I thought about getting a jigsaw but I'm not sure which would be more useful.

Brand suggestions are helpful as well.
