Rugged Ridge? I'm guessing a guy named this cultivar. Just a hunch. Anyhow, I recently happened upon this tree and thought it might make a nice replacement for the oak some of you are probably tired hearing about. I think it was in a #7 container with about a 1-1/4" caliper. The bark looked very much like the picture posted on Schmidt's website. What's the scuttlebutt on this manly tree?

Acer miyabei 'Rugged Ridge'
Looks more like a Field Maple to me, or at least a hybrid with it. That's typical Acer campestre bark, and the leaves don't look large and deeply lobed enough for true A. miyabei. The two are closely related so would be able to hybridise.
