I had my chimney rebuilt about 7 years ago. It is a dual chamber chimney with two thirds of it for the fireplace and one third for the flue pipe from the furnace. Before the chimney was rebuilt I installed a chimney liner in the flue pipe side of the chimney. When the chimney was rebuilt the mason used a six inch clay tile to surround the flue pipe liner. Now the clay pipe is starting to spall and I am trying to figure out my options. Can I cut the clay pipe flush with the top of the chimney and put the weather cap there? Do I need to reinstall the clay pipe? What do I need to consider and ultimately do? I have enclosed 2 photos and maybe I am over reacting to the spalling of the tile.
