I moved from the Pacific Northwest and now live in Zone 9b, too hot for peonys. Are there any new varieties of this beautiful plant that can survive at higher temperatures?
Thank you,
Paula
Growing Peonys in Florida
I have read that Itoh peony and Chinese tree peony do not require chilling time to form flower buds. Perhaps these types of peonies will bloom for your zone. Here is the link to Chinese tree peonies.

Nice link, Kousa. I have family in Florida. I think they'd like a gift of a tree peony. It wouldn't hurt to try.
Glad the ingo helps, poinget. My obsession with peonies has no end. :)
Thank you Kousa,
I lived just south of you in Maryland for six (6) years and I remember the distinct seasonality. None of that here in Central FL (other than football season). I'm intrigued now to give these a try. Thank you for the motivation.
I know it's been a while since you posted, but I have been wanting peonies as well and working toward finding ones that will do well here. I found this article http://www.ag.auburn.edu/hort/landscape/AU_Peony_Project.html and have ordered a couple of the ones that were supposed to do well here in the deep soutn. I also planted a couple of the varieties last year. I'll let you know how they do this year....
