Sweet smelling shrub question

Bainbridge, GA

A friend has a shrub that is very sweet smelling (not tea olive) It has little
oval leaves and clusters of tiny white trumpet shaped blossoms. Can anyone
give me an idea of what this might be? (This is not a vine, like Jasmine)Thanks.

There are bush type jasmines too.

could it be this one? http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/78292/
common name is Orange Jasmine though it is not a Jasmine. i don't know if it would be hardy in georgia but mine has withstood 17 degrees and bounced right back.

Thanks Happytail and Trackinsand, but no it isn't Orange Jasmine. I took a picture on my phone and need to send it to my computer so I
can upload here. It has very tiny delicate flowers and leaves. Will try
to get the picture on here in a day or two.

Gloria, you've got my curiosity up ... Have you ever found out what the shrub is? I love scented shrubs!

I can't find a picture of Sweet Betsey, so am not sure what it looks like.
I did see a picture of an Abelia that looks like the shrub I'm trying to
identify. The picture wasn't a close-up, so I'm not positive. I wonder
if Sweet Betsey and Abelia are the same.

you may have what is known as carolina spice, if so you are extremely fortunate.

Could it be the Abelia.

Did anyone decide what you have?

Sounds like Russian olive, Silver Berry (Elaeagnus angustifolia) if it was blooming in late September (2013). Lovely aroma with small white flowers but also considered invasive and quite a prolific grower.

LavinaMae, it's Abelia. Sorry I haven't been on DG for a while. Thanks everyone for your ideas.

Thanks, Weeding
