Will my furniture (and my sanity) survive kittyhood?

Mid Gulf Coast, TX(Zone 9b)

I became the servant of two orphaned littermates last week. They are really darling and I love them, but they are driving me and my little Schnauzer CRAZY!!!! They tear around the house 90 miles an hour and do their other kitty things at the same speed! I have to check the refrigerator and dishwasher before closing the doors so they won't be trapped inside! They swing from the curtains and try to sit on our heads. They were so easy to train to the litter box, but the constant climbing and running are about to get us down. Their claws and teeth are like needles and they certainly don't mind using them. How have you "kitty proofed" your house? How long does it take to outgrow this phase? I know their job is to be kitties (and they are doing a superb job) but I would like to promote them to well behaved, laid back kitties!!!!

Their names are Nuisance and Pestilence if that gives you some clues to their personalities!

HELP!!!!!!
