"Quirky" Computer and Keyboard

At times my computer goes "haywire". I type letters on the keyboard, but the results on the monitor
screen comes up with totaly different letters !! (sometimes not) Why ? Usually happens when I have been typing for a short while.

Has my computer been invaded by an intruder ? A virus ? I just can't tell. The message I get from my Security Programs is "Your computer is safe". I do have a couple of programs to keep check on things.....but show nothing about my computer being invaded.
