That's the title of a clipping I came across while culling through a pile of papers, it's a list of where to donate, recycle and sell castoffs.
Many of them we already know and the list is two years old, but that said, here are some of the less obvious ones:
USED CLOTHING: Vietnam Veterans of America re-sells it to fund programs for vets and will pick up. (clothingdonation.org)
STUFFED ANIMALS: send to SAFE (stuffedanimalsforemergencies.org) which disperses them to homeless shelters and emergency aid workers and paramedics that give them to kids they meet on their calls
WEDDING DRESS: Brides Against Breast Cancer, a program that sells them to fund the wishes of metastatic breast cancer patients hoping to share memorable experiences with loved ones (bridesagainstbreastcancer.org)
WOOD PLANKS, CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS: Reclaimed wood is used in eco-friendly construction projects. Light fixtures, home renovation left overs, garden furniture (planetreuse.com)
GOODNIGHT MOON OR TWILIGHT: The Children's Book Project donates to schools, shelters and community centers (childrensbookproject.org)
SOCCER SHOES: Peacepassers.org collects gently used soccer equipment, balls, jerseys etc. to distribute to communities in need all over the world. Contact peacepassersinfo@gmail.com
TECHNOTRASH: Mystery cables, CD-ROMS, VHS tapes, cassettes, whatever, to greendisk.com for recycling
ILL-FITTING JEANS: Donated jeans are reduced to their natural state and reborn as cutting-edge eco friendly insulation for communities in need like Hurricane Sandy victims who are rebuilding (cottonfrombluetogreen.org)
TOILETRIES: all those hotel shampoos and soaps can be delivered to areas beset by life-threatening communicable diseases (cleantheworld.org)
LITTLE MERMAID: send favorite childhood DVDs to Kid Flicks who creates libraries of family friendly movies for every children's hospital and pediatric dept. in the country, (kidflicks.org)
OFFICE SUPPLIES: go to iloveschool.com, type in your zip code and find nearby classrooms in need of pencils, paper, markers, books, backpacks, space heaters and more to take the bite out of the cost of running a classroom
MOBILE PHONES: cash for your old working phone for resale or safely recycling. They plant a tree for every recycled phone. Print out a free-shipping label at greenphone.com
GARDEN PRODUCE: (as a member of DG, this is one of my faves) connecting backyard gardeners to food pantries in their area (ampleharvest.org)
