Mean rooster problem.... :-[

Fowlerville, MI(Zone 5b)

Despite repeatedly using the technique in the sticky for mean roosters - which worked great until recently, my full size Buff Orpington rooster has decided to start attacking me.....which I will not tolerate. I would like to keep him for fathering chicks, but I have young grandchildren over every day, and my chickens free-range. I have a smaller coop that I could keep him in, and leave my hens in the larger coop so that they can free range and my grandchildren remain safe. ......Will that work? What do you all do with mean roosters?

My roosters are not mean, but they were ruining the hens' feathers. People coming for eggs thought the hens were diseased or something. So I built a separate rooster run. The boys still sound the alarm when hawks are about (or buzzards - they can't seem to tell the difference). Everyone is quite content. It seems to work well.

Sounds like a good plan. Then you will still have him when you want chicks.

It's the only solution I can think of that doesn't involve freezer-camp. ;) lol
