Swamp Rose Mallow

West Babylon, NY(Zone 7a)

Found this growing near a pond, petals are pink with no center color, can it hybridize with Hardy Hibiscus?

Swamp Hibiscus aka Hibiscus coccineus comes in white, pink and red.

Kure Beach, NC(Zone 9a)

It may be able to. The leaves look like H. moscheutus, so it could be closely enough related.
I'd post the picture in the Plant ID forum and see if anyone knows what it is.
I know it's not H. coccineus.

Barbie, you are right - it's not coccineus, which does not have velvety leaves, as this picture shows.

I didn't know coccineus came in pink though! Cool!
I knew about the red and white varieties.

We have pink growing along a landscaped road in our area - I plan to collect some seeds.

Excellent.....

If they don't need to be near water then I should collect seeds and grow them its a beautiful pink! There's only one plant so I hope I can get some.

I had had success with the red ones for years. Mine rarely get extra water and do fine. I think they do really wet in wet conditions, but still are fine in drier ones.
