Rebloom on tree peony August 12

I never have had peonies rebloom before. Is this common? There is one open bloom, a little smaller than the usual spring bloom, and also an unopened bud.

I answered on ATP, but I'm going to put the link to the article here, too, in case someone here would like to look at it. I thought it interesting.

This is interesting. But mine is not an Itoh, it is a tree peony from Song Sparrow, named Terpsichore. What about fertilizing tree peonies?

That link is not working for me, but I found it on Carsten Burkhardt's web project. It's a lovely flower. The article might not seem relevant, but if you look at Terpsichore's parentage, it's listed as a lutea hybrid (a tree peony), which the article specifically mentions as the rebloomer.

Sources tend to agree that tree peonies can be fed with a little low nitrogen fertilizer in the Spring and once more between mid growing season to Autumn, like the herbaceous peonies. Potash helps with flower development and bonemeal is a great slow-release fertilizer. I don't have any practical experience except with the bonemeal, and it seems to work well. Others here will have to tell you their opinions on when, how much, and with what to fertilize. Reblooming is a rare occurrence. You may have to adapt the methods to your plant, though I don't think anything you apply will affect the flowers already coming in.

Thank you very much, that is a really good link. Did I miss the reference to lutea hybrid rebloomer, or is that a separate article?

About fertilizing? I'm glad it answered your question. I'm leery to give advice because I have limited experience with peonies. That's why I didn't answer right away and posted a link when I did. The lutea hybrid part was in the first article.

"Rick Rogers of Brothers Herbs & Peonies in Sherwood
(Wilsonville is the new on-the-ground location) says that a hybrid
tree peony with the Paeonia lutea species in its background (as
'Kintoh' does) will rebloom in the fall: 'Not every year and not a ton
of bloom like in the spring, but rather just a few.'"

Did you get many blooms? What a nice surprise to get flowers before Autumn.

I got 2, but that's about all I got this spring!

Well then, that's 100%! Nice one!
