I plant in pots as after 4 back surgeries that lets me plant sitting down. In many of the pots the stalks that have finished blooming are taking up needed space for the new shoots. Is it wise to cut off the ones that have finished blooming to make room for new shoots coming up? Is it harmful to the plant?
I can see where it might actually help in another way. At the end of the growing season there would be less to have to cut down all at once. I just don't want to be hurting the plant.

Cutting the stalks of cannas that have finished blooming.
I think that you can cut the old blooms down.
The only reason for not doing so,-- would be if you want to collect seeds.
You can absolutely cut away. I have dozens growing in my landscape, and many more in pots, and I cut them back frequently, with no harm to the plant. By the way, I am giving away 'Sunset' Canna for shipping cost if anyone want some. I need to recover some space for other plants. Ken
Yes, riosamba .. you can cut them all the way down.
Thank you all for the advise. My garden looks neater already.
