Can lilies be cut back after flowering?

Albany, ME(Zone 4b)

I'm guessing they need to gain strength through their leaves for the next year, but they do interfere with the look of my garden, being so tall. Any thoughts/advice?

TIA

If you want your lily bulbs to strengthen after blooming, make sure you remove the bloom and don't permit the seed pod to develop. You can cut the top of the stem, but I would not cut it below the leaf growth before fall garden cleanup after the first frost which for your could be pretty early.
