having iris' in mixed borders

I am wondering if I should just make a bed for only iris'. I am having a horible time with iris borers. I have them mixed in one of my flowerbeds in the front yard and i am sick knowing that these "critters" are destroying my iris'. Once you get the borers out of the rhizomes do you have to throw away whats left or what? Sorry I am really frustrated right now. Any advice is really appreciated. Kim

Check the rhizome & if no rot, it can be replanted. If thare are signs of rot, remove the wet affected part & give a bleach bath (10 parts to the water.) Dry in the sun & re plant. Keep the irises from being shaded whether a mixed planting or by themselves. the plants do better away from shrubbery.
