This Rose of Sharon variety is supposed to be sterile because its flowers never fully open.
I force opened a flower, the inside was very sticky which probably is what holds the petals together, this sticky stuff attracts insects like ants. Once I peeled away the petals I saw no reproductive parts, the flower seems to be all petals.
It was just one flower, maybe some have it.
Who else has this, have you ever had seed from it?
