What plants would love to live here?

North Ipswich, Qld, Australia

CLOSED --- CLOSED

I was wondering what potted plants I could put under steps and in shady area.
It does get light but no sun.
Please help as I am just not using this area. I have a few pic's so you guys will know what I mean.
These photo's were taken on an overcast and cold day. No direct sunlight at all.

Thanks,
Degarotty

Peace Lily is a good choice. or you can google "shade-loving indoor plants".

Thank you so much as I have hit a brick wall and just can't get myself back into gardening. Does anyone else have this trouble from time to time????

Hi

Some possibilities for your shaded area:

Aspidistra, Cast Iron Plant - I bought a nice variegated one on Aussie ebay

Small clumping palms - all well described by Palmbob on this site:

Chamaedorea microspadix
Chamaedorea elegans
Chamaedorea seifrizii
& others

These are all regarded as indoor plants in colder countries, but I grow all outside in relatively heavy shade, and they do beautifully. What I've found is that bigger pots are usually better - probably because they don't dry out so easily.

Best wishes

Hi Robyn,

I am so grateful for your in-put and suggestions.

I have hit a gardening "brick wall" and just cannot get back into it but your email leaves me feeling like I can make it nicer and want to try again.

Thanks Heaps,
Debi

Chamaedorea elegans and Lily is a good choice for shaded area.
