I found about 20 of these caterpillars on my false indigo this morning. They are stripping the plant of its leaves. Can someone ID this critter for me? If it is a butterfly caterpillar, I will gladly sacrifice the false indigo if it is a host plant. For now, the caterpillars are in a plastic pitcher with a top on it to keep them from escaping.
Please, I need helpWhat kind of caterpillar is this?
Marilyn, did you post this on butterfly forum?
Looks like Genista caterpillar to me. http://bugguide.net/node/view/132367/bgimage

Thanks, steadycam3, for that information. It may be the same as mine but I did not notice those "horns" on one end.
No, Sandra, I didn't think to post it on the butterfly forum. I think I may have my answer, though, from steadycam3.
I found this site on google and it confirms what steadycam3 has said:

I will consider the mystery solved. :) Thanks, steadycam3!
