I made my font larger and actually like it less...too much scrolling. I tried zooming in, that makes it fit the page but I don't like that either :(

South Hamilton, MA

Talking about 'clearing cache' What is it & how do you do it?

Thomaston, CT

I hate it! More work just to get a photo into view, confusing, colors are all wrong!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Glad you asked? My two cents.

My journal, which I have spent years on, is rendered useless. I can find no search box for looking up any of the over 6000 entries I have made. The page of my journal is now cut off so I can't see all of the columns anymore.

When a photo is posted in a thread the text is now a long skinny column that makes reading it a joke.

If they want dead space for something on either side then I guess it is a good thing. A nice clean look that I assume they want as the new format for mobile users, and future surprises that have to do with revenue, tweets or other pinterest users. When I look at it on my iphone it is a jumbled mess. But not going to try to adjust that now as I don't want to screw up the use of my phone.

If I clear my cache, do I loose all the information in my History ? I rely on all that so I don't have to type words that I use all the time in my journal. (genus, location, common names etc)?

I spent a few minuets trying to figure out and fix what was wrong with my computer when it first appeared rather than thinking it was an intentional change. I rebooted. That tells you something about the look. I thought DG had been hacked or a worm had gotten in and my computer was about to get a virus. Bugs belong in my garden not in my computer.

I am not a complete computer novice, but they need to send out more information to help us through this. Out to weed and plant some new heuchera. I can do that without help. Patti

South Hamilton, MA

yes Patti they still have not given information on how 'to clear the cache' It comes on with blue type over my form notices so I can't read the top 2. No journal, luckily so that isn't a problem.

Thomaston, CT

It's a mess....yes, the powers that be want it slicked up for mobile users....I'm sticking with a desktop, don't need any more 'toys'!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Ahem. We don't track down every thread on DG, so please understand that if you make a site request anywhere other than the Dave's Garden forum, we may or may not see them. It was blind luck that I saw this thread.

IrisMA, if you can tell us what browser you're using, we'll be happy to give you steps to clear your cache.

ROBINDOG, it isn't a mess. If it still looks out-of-sorts on your computer, we can help you clear the cache so it looks correct. And we didn't make these changes for for mobile users (I am still on a traditional laptop myself). We cleaned up some twelve-year-old stuff to bring it up-to-date for everyone.

South Hamilton, MA

Terry I use IE on a windows 7 program.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Iris, are you running I.E. 7? (eeek.) Or is Windows 7 your operating system? Here are some ways to determine what version you're running (some of these will only work on certain versions.)

1. Open Internet Explorer, click Help in the Menu bar, and then click About Internet Explorer.

2. Open Internet Explorer, click the Tools Tools button (or click Help in the Menu bar), and then click About Internet Explorer.

3. Open Internet Explorer, swipe in from the right edge of the screen (if you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen and move the mouse pointer down), tap or click Settings, and then tap or click About.

4.. Open Internet Explorer for the desktop, tap or click the Tools Tools button (or tap or click Help in the Menu bar), and then tap or click About Internet Explorer.

South Hamilton, MA

windows 7 is the operating system. It keeps wanting me to use IE 10 how come?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Usually pushes you to get the latest version, Lucy.

South Hamilton, MA

yes, but that doesn't help getting rid of a mess. I remember we were told not to do 9. I just want to clear my screen & all directions take me to 'about' & I get the '10' which is not helping

Thomaston, CT

I don't want to clear anything if I lose my photos......

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Robin you won't lose photos

Thomaston, CT

Then what gets cleaned out?

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

your browsing history and other things related to that. admin helped me with my browser, and it worked great. I still have my favorites right where I put them.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

I like having my browsing history and all the things that I type repetitively in my history, which I assume I would loose. I am not clearing the cache yet as the screen for me is still readable with no scrolling needed, but yesterday when I looked at photos that were posted with a long text, then the text was so narrow and long that it is rendered almost unreadable. I hope they fixed that today. I am about to test it with this posting. My own Beta Test.

I am mostly freaked out about the Journal Search being gone, though Terry posted that it will be back along with some other missing parts, such as the last several columns of my Garden Journal entries. I wished they had posted what was missing or screwed up as Terry did this morning, before they just dumped this update on us. I think we were the unofficial Beta site and that caused a lot of not so happy campers. But it is summer. So as of now, I can't use my Journal to correctly label the photos of the garden that I took the last couple of days, so I guess I am one of those campers. I also can't look up anything of my journal or edit it either which is a disaster for me.

Here are some unlabeled long views from yesterday. Patti

Why do specialist docs think they can do whatever they want? 3 hours this morning for an appointment. Called me in within 15 minutes than sat in the exam room waiting and waiting and waiting...finally asked after over an hour if they forgot about me...of course all apologetic but never an explanation. If I didn't like the doc so much...don't want to have to start over after 3 years seeing him. Then had to wait another half hour to schedule another shot. I know it could be worse could have been sitting for chemo treatments...just need to vent :)

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I'm confused as to why they don't beta test with some members first before just changing it all over...or maybe the do and they actually liked the changes and didn't notice any errors???? who knows....I just don't like the dull colors, I'm a gardener I like COLOR!
as to clearing your history, why don't you just bookmark your favorites, so you don't have to worry about that being deleted? If you never clear your history your computer is just going to be bogged down and start to run extremely slow

Patti, your gardens, like Bill's, are fantastic! What is the large white-blooming shrub? Love the dog at the end of the path.....she's happy there....Ronnie, sorry about the wait....yes, some specialists overbook....my late DH's rheumatologist would schedule 3 or 4 patients for the same time slot ....the wait was endless! Jen, never cleared my history ....guess I shall now!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

yeah Ronnie that would be a reason for me to change docs... can't tolerate that non sense

yeah it's a kicker Jen.. we pay to be on here.. and they make it so we are uncomfortable.. just justify our complaints.. saying how it's better.. bah.. the only reason I stay on here for for my NE buds

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Well if my journal search was working I could tell you exactly what it was, but it is a non invasive Japanese knotweed called white dragon. Dogs love the garden. Thanks. Patti

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Really beautiful, Patti! I see your brook is still going gangbusters! Everything looks wonderful!

South Hamilton, MA

yes but I think that J2 uses firefox. As soon as I click on 'About IE' all I get is a box showing 10 no help with any thing. Why are the threads overprinted in blue so difficult to read ?

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Iris did you clear everything and then restart?

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Other than the pale colors mine is fine. Didn't have to clear history on my laptop but had to clear it on my nook and restart. The colors are a lot like GW...

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

now I know I am twisted to begin with.. but OMG did this little girl make me laugh so hard

This format change still doesn't work equally well with all browsers. My DS made his own website when he was 16 so he knows about the design problems we're stuck with here. I like the members on DG, but I don't think Admin was honest about why they made the format changes. Moreover, they should have given us a heads up. After this, I'm not quitting but I'm not giving any subscriptions as presents to anyone.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Allison wasn't that hysterical! Couldn't believe that sound came out of her mouth!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Shocked the crap out of me! Who would of thought a little girl would sound like that!!

Rosemary, im with you, hate this new look and don't think i'll be sticking around for much longer. :(

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Then what do we do????? AACCKKK!!!!

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Whaaat?! It's not that bad is it?

South Hamilton, MA

yes would miss friends. not worked on it as yet. Mainly annoyed at the blue type covering the threads.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I think they should have asked if people wanted a change, and then did a test to see how it was received. You have to be receptive to the members.

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

I haven't even been able to get to an RU to meet anyone yet! Hate to lose that opportunity to converse and to meet people who are also enthusiastic to get into the garden. I can't go to daytime garden clubs to do this. I also have a journal here.

Their directions were OK for resetting the overlapping formats. And I could turn off the ads so far as I know. They didn't leave large enough margins for everyone's different browsers, which is poor planning. If they fix that, it wouldn't be so bad, but losing great members because of rough handling is terrible.

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Well, as I suspected, the ads are back in full glory.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

To get rid of the ads you have to go to preferences, then ad settings, check off the ad and featured companies. I always had them off and they didn't come back after the updates. I actually had no issues since I have my system set to auto clear history

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Me too. Never a problem.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Same here.
