Anyone have experience growing English Pennyroyal (Mentha pulegium) around here?
Pennyroyal
I havent grown it up here, I have seen houses in S.FL that actually use it instead of grass, especially in smaller areas. I love how it looks.
I grew it in pots a few years ago. That's the only way I've been able to get anything in the mint family to grow in the heat of Florida. My sister-in-law used it for flea control in her yard... and then would steep a tea of it, dip her dogs bandana in it, let it dry, and tie it around his neck as a natural flea control.
I would be careful about using it as a flea control as it can be toxic.
I can not find the report but I do remember that much
Thanks for the feedback!
I did some research and it seems that the essential oil is most dangerous. The tea can be good for digestion, but this plant should not be used or handled by pregnant woman as it is an abortifaciant.
Apparently there are a couple of types; I'm interested in Mentha pulegium, aka European Pennyroyal.
