We usually have a contest each year for the ugliest daylily bloom. This one may not win, but it's a competitor-Violet Becomes You
Ugly Thread
Oh no! Violet Becomes You is one I wanted to get, but could not afford. Have you seen Lyle's bloom? Beautiful.
I had 2 or 3 uglies last year, but hope this year does not have any! LOL
Linda
Do "thrips" cause some of this ugliness???? I have a number of daylilies that have a splotchy-ness all over them. Here is one of them.
I only get the ugly ones in a bed that gets all day sun, the soil has so much "clay" that I have to dig it out and replace it, when I plant a new daylily.
Any ideas???
Could be thrips or other critters. I have also had katydids mess with the flowers. Could be weather related too. Some cultivars take a few blooms before they straighten up also. If every single bloom is like that, then I would suspect some type of bug.
Don, those are even uglier than mine!
Linda
Usually after several uglies, it ends up quite nice. If that happens this year, I'll try to remeber to post it
That is weird!
Don, I agree!
I thought at first it was just a bud trying to open, but it stayed that way! LOL
Linda
It only has 2 petals and 2 sepals. I have never seen that before. Very strange! Thanks for sharing it with us.
Congratulations!
Oh my, pretty sad looking, lol.
Hmmmm, that's odd looking.
best for last looks like the winner so far! hahaha
I have a Best For Last with a bud on it.....let's see what IT looks like! LOL
Linda
OMG!!!!!! It has been 5 years since I was a "subscriber". I had lost my job, had to move, blah, blah, blah. Upon subscribing, the first thing I looked for was "Ugly Daylilies". I can't tell you how good it is to see it's still here AND to see the names of some of my old friends. I used to be known as sybiltwo "back in the day". Please, if you knew me then, drop me a line. HOORAY for the silliest thread on DG!
Love this thread.
Welcome back!
Thank you, everybody! :0
Minnesippi, good to see you too!!
Thanks!
I've been MIA for many months. Getting back in "the groove".
Still 3 ft of snow in the yard so I wont be posting pics for some time. That and I will be digging up most of what I have to move to a new house soon. Putting ours on the market by April 1st. (I have a LOT of digging to do)
Susan, That's a shame! Slugs! Nasty Boogers. Hope you have better luck with Partita this year.
I heard it takes a while to settle in. Hopefully the ugly stage has passed.....
Fingers crossed for you. I have had some take 2 years to settle in and look good.
Thanks!
Cataddict, weren't you in South Dakota before you moved???
Welcome back!!!
Cataddict - You are not too far from me :)
Yes, hello, minnesippi: I noticed that we are in the same area. My location says Lilydale, MN. I'm not sure why. I live in West St. Paul.
Still, not too far :)
