What are dos & don'ts for displaying ceramic statues in yard

I have been given a few ceramic ducks for my yard. I don't want to ruin them, or, to jeopardize any critters by their placement.

My questions are:

1. Will full, summer, desert, sun destroy the finish on the ceramic?

2. Is it safe to set one in a bird-bath ... is it safe both for its finish, and the safety of bees, birds, & neighbor cats that drink from it?
