Now I'm looking for a variegated tulip tree...liriodendron tulipifera...
First choice-'mediopictum'
Second choice-'snowbird'
Third choice-'aureomarginatum'
I've googled my fingers off. None found in the US. Any help is appreciated...
On a quest...
I have aureomarginatum and in my opinion, it's a dud.
Variegation is not very distinct.
And the tree gets so big so quickly (mine's over 15yrs old & 30+ ft tall, maybe taller),
so you can't notice any of the variegation way up there...
Not spectacular enough for all the room it occupies, in my opinion.
Yeah...that's why it was my last choice.....
I've grown 'Snowbird' in field-testing, but have never been happy with the plant's vitality or vigor. The color in the variegation is fine during the spring (new growth) and then seems to fade with heat with sun....I did not rate it well in the field-testing and wouldn't use it in the Southern Garden...good luck!
OMG .... a medio picta tulip tree??? Where do I need to be begging?? :-)
Kyle
I got one from Forest Farms. They had 2 they were saving for propagation. She let me have one. See what you can do.
