What Type of Iris? Please Help Identify

Trumbull, CT(Zone 7a)

I would appreciate any help in identifying this plant. Thanks in advance Pete.
These are cut by the way and fell over so a petal fell off.
They were 32 to 37" high before I cut them.

this Tall Bearded Iris Cultivar looks alot like 'SPARTAN' from Schriener 1973 to me maybe. their is an Awesome pic of Spartan at Echo Iris' website that has a good shot of the horns like yours that appear the same color gold.

Thank you again, yes it looks very much like the picture at Echo Iris but the pictures here on DG do not look so similar to me anyway.
I should probably mention that it is the only type that I have and has bloomed this same way every year. We have a lot of these iris plants and we usually get only 3 to 5 stalks but we have not done anything before to help them thrive so perhaps they'll do better in the future.

WAR CHIEF has a gold horns but do you think that iris is too new or modern to be yours at intro year 1992?

Ah, good question, the previous owners had this house built in 1989 it was not a spec house and they liked gardening so it is hard to say if they put them in right away or waited a few years. Story goes that they won the lottery, seems they had the money to do it and since they liked gardening I'd guess that they were put in right away. The bed would have looked bare without them. There were also 2 or 3 rose plants in there but they were not very hearty and died, I have no idea what type they were.

They did plant everything too close to the house and I'm probably going to take down a few more spruce trees.

Hostas look to me to be way overgrown also but some animal, probably the deer like to eat them probably during the dry times - not sure.

So far they're looking exactly like SPARTAN to me but I will take a closer look at WAR CHIEF.

Hi and thanks for the suggestion; I found this picture:

These do not have any white on the petals so it doesn't seem to match.

I have some different irises from Schreiners that look very similar to those. All the dark red ones are very much alike. I. Warrior King 2. Sultan's Palace 3. War chief 4. Play with fire

I did not take pictures from the tops of the flowers, but I hope these help.

I finally redid the bed for these last week and have probably 10 or 20 smaller plants left if anyone would like some. Please let me know. I believe that they are SPARTAN variety. Here's a link to a picture of the finished bed: http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/2013/10/12/PeteB7/68dbc1.jpg

Check out this culture sheet. You should replant them soon, you've planted them too deep. Hope this is helpful.

Thanks, I just replanted them and they are about 1" below, I was planning to just wet them well and pull them up a bit or just remove some soil - not sure if this will work.

Tops of the rhizomes should be in view. Check Iris encyclopedia for 'Spartan'. I remember it as redder than your photo.
