anyone growing red porterweed in zone 8

I have bought the red which says on the tag 3 or 4 foot tall
does anyone mulch it with straw in november and take the straw off around march
lst after any cold nights are over?

Will the straw rot it..
trying to over winter it here in zone 8

How tall does yours grow and width?
