Storing Daylilies Inside

Carbondale, IL(Zone 6a)

I'm in between houses right now and have just recieved some lovely day lilies. I was wondering if I could over winter them inside, like cannas and other tubers and rhizomes. Can that be done without killing these gorgeous plants before I've even seen them bloom? Any suggestions would be welcome, as long as they're quick!! Thanks in advance!

Hi arriana, You should do just fine with your daylilies if you pot them up and put them outside with lots of mulch over them. That is how I did a later trade a couple of years ago and now I just divided those plants and planted them into the ground. Just be sure to mulch them and put them on the side of the house that is sheltered from the coldest winter winds and if it warms up quite a bit this winter then remember to water them sparingly so they don't have ice to sit in just water for a rehydration.
Good luck, Lani

I want to thank you too, Lani, I didn't know this.
