weird clematis leaves

Havre De Grace, MD

I just noticed these weirdly distorted small leaves on my clematis. They are mostly toward the top of the plant- but there are somewhat larger ones down lower that are leathery and curling under. What should I do?

Looks like herbicide drift damage to me-

Ouch. I'd have to agree with herbicide drift damage. Give the plant some TLC, eliminate stress and cross your fingers. Hopefull with luck your clematis will recover!

Thank you both. I was thinking that could be the case- it just doesn't look like the " normal" clematis diseases and it is on the corner of a neighbor's property... What TLC do you recommend?

I have seen damage like that on certain plants caused by mites.
Not red spider mites.

Look up Cyclamen Mites and Fuchsia Mites, AKA Fuchsia Gall Mites.
I have no idea if these attack Clematis, or if there is a similar mite that does attack Clematis.
