I was driving and saw on the side of the road a medium sized tree with these beautiful flowers. Made a screeching halt and the owner of the property where it was kindly gave me a sample branch, but could not tell me what type of tree it is. Anyone know please? I would love to order some seeds if I can find them.
It looks like Barbados Cherry (or Acerola), Malpighia punicifolia. It grows to a large spreading bush and produces edible fruit. It's quite good if you like fruit a little on the tart side.
Hmmm.. Thanks Tropicbreeze. I looked it up and found them both very similar, but I don't think they are quite the same one. The tree here does not bear fruit.
