cut clematis flowers?

Santa Cruz, CA(Zone 9b)

I was wondering if anyone had a trick for conditioning clematis blooms so that they last in a vase. I have jackmanii and ramona.

Cool! Thank you. This article made me wonder if clematis is one of those flowers that shatters once it gets pollinated. It mentioned that the stamens need to be tight when the flower is cut.

I really don't know but I have floated them and it does look lovely.

Yes. Let us know what happens.

Good to know. There was a flowercade( exhibition of cut flowers) a few weeks ago. My bloom just shriveled up despite all the ICU efforts. There were others that looked great

Did you cut it as a bud or semi-open or totally opened?

Colleyville, TX(Zone 8a)

I think it must have been totally opened. Also hard to find an unblemished one...but now I know what to look for.

Seems like it would be a guessing game to cut a bud not knowing if it was perfect or not.

How would you select one for a show now that you know what to do?

So, this worked! Cutting the flower after it opens but with the stamens still tight together
I've had them lasting 4 days now!!!! Yay!

Thank you for sharing that good news. Now we can all give it a try and enjoy them inside and outside.

Clematis people are the best!
