Reticulated iris葉hey go on forever.

Stamford, CT(Zone 6b)

Our lovely 4-inch reticulated iris have angular, tubular foliage that is about 4 inches when the irises bloom. However, once the irises are finished, that foliage goes on forever. It's about 14 inches high by now. Does anyone know if it is harmful to cut this stuff that makes the garden look so messy? I have done it to the daffodils, and they come back every year.
