bugleweed and hostas

Charlotte, VT

I'm going to be moving to a zone 3 location soon and of course I will want to take my hostas with me. Currently where I live I have perrywinkle planted as a ground cover around my hostas and it looks very pretty. However, perrywinkle is not supposed to survive in zone 3. I have some bugleweed in the zone 3 location and am wondering if it would work with the hostas or if it would be too invasive. Has anyone tried this?

Helen, both mine in this bed are NOIDs, gifted by a neighbor going on four years now, and they live quite well together. If the Ajuga gets too thick around plants, it's easy to rip mats of it up to fill in bare spots elsewhere.

Best of luck with your move.

That's good to know, Susan. I've never planted Ajuga, but something gave me a patch - maybe squirrels? It looks good with the hostas - might try some in some locations.
