Has anyone ever successfully grown living stones by seed? If so - how did you start them? I'm looking at this ebay store: http://stores.ebay.com/Exotic-Cactus-Collection?_trksid=p2047675.l2563
Thx.
growing living stones by seed?
seriously, no one has grown a cactus or succulent from seed?
The website of the central arizona cactus and succulent society (CACSS) has a pretty decent description of how to grow cacti from seed, the desert botanical garden website does too (very similar descriptions). Then there is another website that has a lot of useful documents, here is a link to a document about propagation: http://cals.arizona.edu/pubs/garden/az1483.pdf.
I have never tried growing the living stones from seed, but just this spring I got a whole bunch of pretty random cactus seeds from the seller you link to. More or less followed the descriptions I could find on DBG.org and the CACSS. Things sprouted and are growing, but I am not quite able to tell yet what they are turning into.
Hope this helps.
That helps a lot. Thanks. BTW, what is your first name?
You are welcome. My full first name is Matthijs, but I go by Thijs, I am from the Netherlands, Matthijs is the dutch version of Matthew. Thijs is pronounced 'Tice'.
You are now a member; which includes zero benefits and may in fact damage your reputation:

If I recall, mcvansoest has been one of us for a couple years......
In name but possibly not officially. I very much appreciate my name being added to the long list of members!
Thanks!
