Downy Mildew

Oviedo, FL(Zone 9b)

Everyone who uses impatiens in their gardens needs to read Carrie Lamont's article about the Downy Mildew scourge that is affecting bedding plant impatiens. You may not have it, but it seems to be spread by plants from box stores and spores can be blown onto your plants from a neighbor's affected plants. No cure, dispose of plants in the trash not compost and be careful about cleaning your garden tools. Carrie's article explains it all in full. Thanks, Carrie!

I never plant many impatiens, but last year I noticed the few I had were reduced to stalks.......will find a substitute this year.

Local garden center sent me an email, giving a list of plants to substitute if you usually buy impatiens

That was smart...good business.
