It is a type of Bird's Nest Fungus. Maybe Cyathus striatus.

Why can't I find cool fungus like this in MY YARD?!!!

Hey Kay, you get fungi growing just by placing mulch in your garden.

I have plenty of mulch in my yard, in the form of leaves. I've never seen anything but mushrooms, so maybe it's too warm here.

Metro- I LOVE YOU!! Just got a free plant from Cruzan Gardens. Knew it was fungus- we have some weird stuff here, but that one looked more like the wrapper in a box of chocolates with silver skittles in it. Owe you big time! ~Deb
