Worm Casting Tea

Are any of you brewing your own liquid fertilizer from your worm castings?

Not yet. But, soon as my new bin starts giving me something to work with, I will be!

I started indoor vermicomposting 2 weeks ago and i am already hooked. Last year I brewed my own liquid comfrey fertilizer and was amazed at the results. This year I want to brew worm tea and combine them for a more complete fertilizer.

I bought 12 bocking #14 comfrey roots 3 years ago. This comfrey is sterile and won't produce seed but once you plant it, you will be hard pressed to eradicate it. After the first year you can start harvesting the leaves. There a couple ways of using it but I make liquid fertilizer from it. I filled a large cooler with the plant material and allowed it to break down for a couple weeks in the sun (with the lid closed) no added water. The cooler I used has a drain on one end that I used to pour off what I needed. I mixed it 1:15 with rainwater and fertilized my vegetables and figs. This year I am told I will be able to harvest up to 5 times a year so I bought a couple 55 gallon plastic barrels on craigslist to increase the amount I can make.

Can comfrey be grown in a container for "containment?" Don't want an invasive in the small yard I have.

Also, could you have steeped the comfrey in a bucket of water?

i make tea every summer..well..i make my tea..and worm tea..
LOL better not get the two mixed up..huh..LOL :)
anyways.. i use 5 gal buckets..i have several aquarium pumps ..
i fill the bucket 80% full of water..let stand couple days..get the chlorine out
add couple quarts of worm castings.. put in couple air stones..and let go for
3 or 4 days..
theres been alot of discussion on benifits of worm tea.. for me..i use it
as an inoculant on my roses,and compost..
last yr was my 2 nd yr using it on my roses.. i havent had aphid problems on
my roses ever since..
i know this isnt very scientific.. but its working.. my neighbours have aphids..
and i dont..:)
this yr im going to try for 1st time bio char.. its best to inoculate the bio char
before using..so im going to use aerated worm tea..and trichoderma bacteria
hope to see others thoughts..experiences doing this...

Comfrey mines nutrients with a deep root system which may rule out container growth.

Dave, How much worm tea are you putting on you roses, this sounds like a winner too me.

i just pour the tea over my roses..
i tried to think of a way to spray them..but figured id
get a really dilute dose on the roses that way..
so i just take 5 gal buckets ..fill 1/2 with tea..fill up with
water.. now one thing i dont do that some are doing..
i dont let the water stand i use with the tea.. reason ive heard
from others is the chlorine in the water.. ive thought of having a
55 gal barrel with standing water.. but havent done that..
yet.. :)
