Here is the Moon Calendar, first is the entire Farmer's Almanac for February.
I continue with the one I use, the Biodynamic system.
One of the element in Biodynamic, is the planting calendar, which has to do with the cosmic timing of activities in the garden, much of the timing for work to be carried out according to the biodynamic system is to do with the movement of the moon through the Zodiac.

1st Favorable Day For Planting Root Crops. Fine For Sowing Grains, Hay, And Forage Crops. Plant Flowers.
2nd-4th Plant Carrots, Turnips, Onions, Beets, Irish Potatoes, And Other Root Crops In The South. Lettuce, Cabbage, Collards And Other Leafy Vegetables Will Do Well. Start Seedbeds. Good Days For Transplanting.
5th-6th Neither Plant Nor Sow On These Barren Days.
7th-8th Any Root Crops That Can Be Planted Now Will Do Well.
9th-11th Barren Days. Fine For Clearing, Plowing, Fertilizing And Killing Plant Pests.

Today it is snowing. Yesterday I worked hard on digging the new shade garden which is enclosed by fencing. The deer seem to ravish the hydrangeas and the north side of the house really gets too much sun in the summer "morning sun" which lasts until afternoon. I will be moving the pulmonarias, brunnera, lamium, hellebores and some ferns.

I imaging that in your piece of the world stone fruits, cherries and the likes should produce beautiful with so many cold hours that you have and you are quite right to move some of the plants when they are dormant, as the ground heat up, the growing hormones of the plants wakes up and then they get accustom to their new location as nothing did happen.
I do also quilt in winter, I have to finish a bed scarf or coverlet that I will restart working mid Autumn when I finish with the harvest, I'll see....

I have been interested in the "Gardenng by the Moon for a very long time. My dad followed the moon etc. for gardening, but, sadly, I was a kid and was not interested in his methods, and now, he's gone. So, I don't really understand this "Gardening by the Moon" method, but have witnessed it working.
Is there a resource I could study regarding this subject? The Farmer's Almanac doesn't seem to give too much explanation. Or perhaps, I haven't read it enough. I have looked at it in the stores and haven't been able to make too much sense of it. I was hoping there would be an intro to this subject at the top of this forum.
I had explained some few times about moon gardening and the one I follow, the biodynamic one.
There are some few books about it, that for sure you can find in your local library but in the net there are some sites that tells you a good bit.
I try to add some info in this thread but I do not repeat it often so it doesn't looks too repetitious.

Answer: Transplant and re pot houseplants during the waxing moon so the plant can capitalize on the full moon growth, better on a earth sign or a water sign will do

Answer: In the first or second quarter of the waxing moon, take cuttings from plants you wish to propagate also better on a earth sign or a water sign will do .
Once the cuttings are rooted, pot in the first or second quarter of the waxing moon, if they are Flower on Flower day, Ornamental on Leaf day etc.
what about fertilizing house plants.
Answer: Fertilize when the moon is waning, (when the earth is inhaling) and ideally on a leaf-day.
By the way, next Flower day, March 2nd and 3 are the next Flower day
So interesting. Seems complicated to me. But, I am knew to this and need to read more about this subject.

birder you can do it BUT if you are sowing perennial Flowers you do that on flower day for spectacular flowers.

Waxing moon is when the Moon is getting larger in the night sky, moving towards the Full Moon and
waning moon is when the moon is decreasing in size, after the Full Moon

A friend suggested that I try the biodynamics planting calendar so I did for the first time last year. I get so confused with all the waxing/waning, and other stuff, I just look at the calender I bought and plant what they say that day is. Wish I would have known you were posting here. By the way, maybe it was chance but I had some of the BEST plants last year, my broccoli (flower) was HUGE! So I try to follow it as closely as I can.

what happens is that it does work. The plants are healthy, and tha harvest is good.

So far all I do is the planting calendar but I garden at my son's farm and he believes in building the soil first. We are in GA so we have some pretty heavy red clay we have been amending. We have only been there three years but we have come a long way.
abhege, continue adding organic material and it will improve. Remember is a labour that last years but you will see the improvement if you persevere. Cover crops are good to fix Nitrogen and potatoes area traditional crop for breaking up clay soil the same, cabbage, really any brassica help also and peas they do ok in many differents types of soil as long as you do not over water, in clay this is an issue but they do well in there and after you harvest cut them near the soil and leave the roots in the ground to add nitrogen and organic material to the soil, improving the drainage and your soil.
