Spring Bulbs planted Late Winter

I am considering purchasing some spring blooming bulbs now: end of January.

1. Do you think they would grow leaves but not bloom and maybe bloom next year?
2. Or would they just rot?
3. Any advice?

I am looking at Leucojums and Alliums right now.

My experience with large Alliums is that they may grow and produce leaves but might not bloom till next year. I would not expect them to rot. You could stick them into a deep container and see if that might help. Give those large bulbs and deep pot if you use a container.

I just came across your thread and wanted to add my two-cents worth of advice - 'Go for it!'

I received a gift of a couple hundred tulips on March 8. Fortunately, they had been kept on a screen porch, so they were 'chilled'. I planted them and recorded the results here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1301564/

They are great and have bloomed at the same time as the other bulbs that were planted last October. Here's how they look today.
