Cassava plant help

West Babylon, NY(Zone 7a)

I'm reading this is a woody shrub, but does it die back in cold weather and return, or die for good in the cold? Does it get branches like shrubs and trees or stems like flowers? I live in zone 7a and bought a root from garden center, when and how do I plant/grow this? No info was given.

Orlando, FL(Zone 9b)

cassava is tropical, so wait until spring. and it does grow into a shrub type situation and the cassava roots are the large tubers underground. :)

Thank You for the help!

no problem! they're interesting with their palmate leaves and as a starchy root vegetable. just keep in mind they like deep, fertile, well drained soil and love the heat.

I love the boiled cassava root with a mojo of pork lard, garlic, onions and sour orange. It's delicious !!! I've never tried to grow one here since it's cheaper to buy it at the market.

i love salty cassava chips! and yes boiled cassava is great. i'm not a fan of cassava pone though.
