Storing Taro root (elephant ear)

I found out Taro root sold at my grocery store is actually Elephant Ear plant. I was wondering how to store them during winter, they have almost no roots and being dormant and not stored properly I don't know if they will survive storage?

I was looking and its also called Yautia or Arrowleaf Elephant Ear. Are they hardy in the cold unlike other elephant ears? I live in zone 7a

I live in 7b and elephant ears here seem to do all right in the winter. Contact your county extension service and ask them. Luciee {;^)

Someone with more knowledge about actually growing this one may chime in, but since you and I live in the same Zone, I think it would be a bit late to plant (dormant, no roots). As a test of viability, you could plant yours in a pot inside and grow it as a houseplant.

Yes that's it, from the grocery store, but i'm not eating them I want to grow them instead. :) I have grown elephant ear before but I always have to take the corm out first sign of frost. According to here the one I bought IS able to stay planted all year here, but other sites are saying only 8a and above it's hardy, so i'm confused. I wanted to store the corm in my basement until next spring when it can be grown outside.

It's in the high 50's so not too cold and not too hot.

I would put this thread on the Aroids forum. They have some real talent there.
