Using a fan with indoor herb garden

West Newton, MA

I've read several suggestions to use a fan to maintain good air circulation around the plants in my indoor herb garden where I'm growing oregano, thyme and basil. Two questions:

(1) should I keep the fan going all the time, or just when the grow lights are on (the timer is set to 16 hours a day), or just a few hours, or...?

(2) I have the fan at a speed where the plants are definitely gently waving in the breeze from the fan -- is that ok?

Thanks.

I don't think a fan will hurt anything but I also don't think you need to run it full time or very fast.
Gentle should be good and probably not even for the duration of your grow light use.

Agreed, wind toughens young plants and outdoors sucks moisture out of the ground- spring winds- indoors it will help moisture condensation from staying on the plants so, shouldn't take much of a breeze during daylite hrs if they aren't too crowded tite.
