snake ID

Decatur, GA

I was cleaning the koi pond filter and this little guy turned up! I think it was just a coincidence and the snake doesn't hang out in the pond filter.
Anyway, this snake is tiny, only about 6-8 inches long. I would guess it to be a baby but really have no idea. I have only spotted a snake in my yard a few times in the 9 years I have been here so they aren't common.
Anyone out there who would know about this snake? I put him in a bucket to photograph him but then let him go near the pond.
Thanks.

Your welcome helenchild, at least you know its a good snake. I for one HATE snakes, I'd rather go up against a black bear than a snake LOL,
