Hurricane Sandy

Oviedo, FL(Zone 9b)

Hi, everyone. I am about to go outside with my son to secure the lawn chairs, etc. because we do get higher winds up here on my hilltop than they do down at the bottom. Everyone prepare today and be safe. Those of you closer to the storm when it comes ashore, please check in with us to let us know how you are doing when you can. The best thing about this is that our town leaf bag pickup is next week {Nov 3-7} and hopefully all the stupid maple leaves will be down after this to enable a single pickup and no compost site trips. But perhaps I dream. I hope the kids don't have to sit out Halloween.
Take care everyone.

My yard looks so bare!

Lots of school closings already, the state offices are shut down for next 2 days

Atlantic City casinos closed after 4 today

Just found out our school is closed tomorrow and Tuesday

Schools are closed here too. If my kids have work l'll just have the girls sleep over. My son may be home but my DIL is a nurse so she may have to go in.
Everything is away, I hated taking down the bird feeders they were flocked today. Left the peanut one for the WP will take it down tonight.

After midnight tonight no one except essential workers are to be on the roads

I love our governor
Mandatory evacuations were in effect for the barrier islands...some people want to stay...his comment "don't be an idiot get out!"

People looking for bottled water....just fill your own bottles, buckets, containers, even ziploc bags and freeze them don't really need to go crazy looking for bottled water

Oviedo, FL(Zone 9b)

Get away from the coast line. I know there are some idiots here who will standing on top of several of our towns sea walls tomorrow letting the storm surge crash over them. There were pictures of surfers down in nj this afternoon. I can't believe people some times. we expect some wind and rain up here. Lots of stuff closed tomorrow. DH and I are just staying home and my son's community college is closed as are many of the school districts in the area. I think they are more alarmed by the wind taking out power lines than anything else.

Hubby went out for more gas and then hit Walmart, no one was out, picked up some more eggs, almond milk, oj and granola bars

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Jen, I agree about not going crazy looking for bottled water. I'm going to fill up stuff tonight before going to bed. I have a Britta filter.

We took in all our lawn chairs and cushions today, and anything else that might blow around. I brought in all my large tropicals, and they are in for the winter. Some small ones still outside till Friday, as then it will be down in the 30's. Then the rest will be in for the year. I re-potted some of my tropicals that needed re-potting, as well as a couple of Christmas cacti and a succulent. I need to get or find a pot for a rooted orchid cactus.

Wind is only 8 mph here so far, but our wind advisory is not starting till tomorrow morning at 6 a.m. I'm wanting to go to the coast to watch some of the storm surges, but maybe I should stay put.

We left CT today, came back to NYC. It's no fun in the country with no power and trees down all over the roads. I went to the market and the lines were all the way to the back of the store. We're planning on staying in. Good luck to everyone in the path...

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Good luck to you, too, Pam. Stay safe!

I am home from work. They let us leave at noon. I let the stray (Meeyow) into the house when I came in and a minute ago he meowed at me to go out. Go figure!

Put a listing on Freecycle and got rid of the last of my dump truck load of wood chips on Saturday. Didn't think the neighbors would like them floating around in the wind. Not really too bad here - - - yet.

can't imagine living in FL or the Carribean and having to deal with huricanes on a yearly basis.

So far, so good in NYC.

Just lost power - on battery backup for a minute. See you later.

Oviedo, FL(Zone 9b)

We lost power here in Saugus around 4:30 pm. The whole town didn't go out, just select parts. We're back on now.
Hope everyone else here is OK.
