Stink Bug

Does anyone know what to use on the invasive stink bug? to kill them off? I sprayed with Dawn on a bunch of them, but I'm not sure if it worked or not. Most insects die pretty quickly when sprayed. These keep truckin'!

We have an area that there are tons of them. It's where we spend our evenings, and it has cloth around it for enclosure.
They are taking over any where they think they can winter.

My way of dealing with multiple bugs at a time our location is to use my small wet/dry vac(with an inch of soapy water in the canister to drown them) and just vacuum away as needed.

We just had a warm spell here in SW ohio and the ones that did make it into the house are coming out. They creep me out in the house because they're like June Bugs, fly around like a drunken fool!! < : o

After reading a couple of your links I'll be on-guard for this coming spring and summer. Inside, the vacuum is a great idea. I've been flushing them when I can!

The stink bug here is a different species than on the East Coast. Funny because the news even said they were brown here in Cincinnati.
I was familiar with the brown stink bug since they love my tomatoes, but these are all gray. The only photo (that looks like the ones we have) I found on the bug guide: http://bugguide.net/node/view/659873.

Not that the species really matter, a stink bug is a stink bug no matter how you smash it, right??
And I know they all love to take bites out of all my veggies!

There are well over 200 species of stink bugs that are native to the US and most of them do not chomp on our garden veggies, and their numbers are kept in balance because they have natural predators, etc. Not so, the BMSB (Brown Mamorated Stink Bug) an invasive species from Asia that is with out any natural controls here.
They have already eaten thru many thousands of dollars worth of orchard fruit, grapes and field crops like soy beans and corn.

Have mercy on those natives (I look for those white bands on the antenna to ID BMSB) and do your part as the "control " to spread and crop devastation by BMSB there in Ohio where I believe they have just begun to invade.

Tomatoes that were yellow or just ripening seemed to attract them more than fully ripe red, They are very mobile and can fly quite a distance, even miles!
