Ever since I remodeled the barn where the chicken coops are, my hens have been laying their eggs in all the wrong places. I decided they needed a hint and placed several ceramic eggs in the appropriate nest boxes, "In here,girls!" Well the decoy eggs have been disappearing! At first I thought that I was the one who was fooled, but none of the eggs were among the eggs I had collected. I have often caught a rat snake in the act of stealing eggs so now I wonder if that is where they went. Can snakes tell real from fake? Can they survive ingesting ceramic eggs? Anyone else had this problem?
Egg-Eating Snake
I have heard of it happening but have not had it in my own coop. I imagine the snake could regurgitate the "china" egg.
I had the same trouble a year or so back. I tried every thing, You name I tried it. Then came up with what works best for me. Have not seen a snake for over a year. [ GOLF BALLS]
