Does anybody know what this is? A friend gave this to me. Someone gave it to her. I think she was growing it in water.

I think Amanzed on the Cacti & Succulent Forum is correct with Bowiea volubilis. That is certainly the way they grow.
I'm sure it is not that. Bowiea volubilis has a green onion like bulb. this has a bumpy round caudex.
Oh, yes, you are right. I didn't notice the bulb was brown and bumpy. Hmmm, wonder what it is.
Maybe when there are some leaves, it will give you a better clue.
