State Fair Zinnias

Seymour, IN(Zone 5b)

Do State Fair Zinnias come back from seed and look like the parent? My neighbor has beautiful ones, but she said a clerk told her they are semi hybrids and are weak plants from saved seeds. I can save all I want from her's to trade if they do good the from saved seeds. Thanks! Lou

Most F1 hybrids do not look like the parents.

Thanks!

The strength of State Fair Zinnias is in their tetraploidy. They are the only tet zinnias I know of.

Still, even if they are not F1s, they come in multicolor mixes, and, when open pollinated they'll produce their own random color crosses and will tend to revert to common, leggy singles.

Thanks so much for all the info. I will order some seeds as I really do want these next year. Lou
