Does anyone know what caused this? I have seen earwigs and other bugs on it.
What did this to my sunflower?
I don't know about in your area, but here that's what mine look like when the birds get started on them.
Thank you, DWMike. I'm actually sort of new to sunflowers, and after I posted my question, it did occur to me that it was just birds. And, actually, I love birds, so I don't mind sharing a little. :-)
Interestingly, I've noticed that the ear wigs seem to burrow down between the seed pockets. I don't know what they do down there - but their horrifying little tail pinchers hang out and give me the creeps!!!
I've come a long way in learning to live in harmony with the various residents of my garden but some of them still give me the willies and earwigs are one of them.
