Wal-mart Celosia bleached out.

Is this usual? Does Celosia lose its color? Is there something missing from my soil? My garden is glorious except for this one little patch of flowers that never filled in to its potential and began bleeding color almost from the start. I kept telling my husband just to wait--He can never see what a plant will become, just the stick in front of him--but it is July already, and these pathetic things are beginning to embarrass me.

I know this is waaay late but they do tend to fade as the bloom head ages. I grow a nice orange one that is really bright but fades to a dull color after it ages on the plant. I usually let a few heads go so I can harvest some seeds once the color is gone.
